在涉外交往中，有关国家的政府、组织或企业单位之间经过谈判，就政治 、经济、文化科技等领域内的某些重大问题达成协议时，一般需举行签字仪式。不同的的签字仪式各有特点，在我国国内举行签字仪式通常要考虑以下几个方面的礼仪问题。 首先，要布置好签字厅，并作好有关签字仪式的准备工作。在我国国内举行的签字仪式，必须在事先布置好的签字厅里举行，绝不可草率行事。 其次，要确定好签字人和参加签字仪式的人员，签字人由签字双方各自确定，但是他的身份必须与待签文件的性质相符，同时双方签字的身份和职位应当大体相当。 最后，要安排好双方签字人的位置，并且议定签字仪式的程序。我国的惯例是：东道国签字人座位位于签字桌左侧，客方签字人的座位位于签字桌的右侧。双方的助签人员分别站立于各方签字的外侧，其任务是翻揭待签文本，并向签字人指明签字处，双方其他参加签字仪式的人员则应分别按一定的顺序排列于各方签字人员之后。 我方人员在外国参加签字仪式，应尊重该国举行签字仪式的传统习惯。有的国家可能会准备两张签字桌，有的国家可能要求参加签字仪式的人员坐在签字人对面，对此不必在意。关键是要不辱使命，对此我方人员不应忘记。
